It is mid-August. Klipkouers focused on women entrepreneurs this month – expert women who have each paced out a piece of land, and work it with passion. All of them are driven by passion. The question is: Do you live your passion in your profession? If so, how do you protect that passion so that it is not consumed by the destruction of disappointment?
To protect that passion, I went to one of my greatest mentors, Jeff Bezos of Amazon. He believes passion is all that helps to constantly keep up your courage. The only way to never be disappointed is to have no hope; it is also the surest way to not live fully. Do your job with passion, then it will never feel like you’re working – that brings constant hope.
In this week’s interview with Chrisna van Rensburg from the online bookshop Kakkerlak, I once again experienced how a passion for books, words and stories can make people come alive. They stumbled once or twice before their magazine achieved success, because they first had to discover the opportunity of the need for storybooks that are out of print. Books that we today call Africana, but that we still want to read. Storybooks that we must conserve with passion.
