A crime analyst and researcher from the civil rights organization AfriForum will Friday depart to give a presentation at the International Association of Crime Analysts (IACA) Annual Training Conference.
Lorraine Claasen from the research unit at AfriForum will give a presentation in New Orleans about the prevalence of farm attacks and farm murders in South Africa.
Since 1990 approximately 1860 farm murders and 4116 farm attacks have taken place.
Claasen will give an overview of the crisis and explain the challenges that the SAPD and other role players are faced with when trying to analyse these crimes in order to combat them proactively.
She will also discuss the way in which the South African government has failed to approach and truly speak out about the seriousness of these crimes.
Farm murders and attacks in South Africa are often associated with extreme violence and levels of brutality and torture.
Claasen will also meet with other international analysts about other possible forms of crime analysis that can be considered in South Africa in order to bring an end to these violent attacks and murders.
