United Nations: AfriForum shines spotlight on SA Government’s human rights violations against minorities

Ernst van Zyl (English)

The civil rights organisation AfriForum participated in the United Nations (UN) 18th session of the Forum on Minority Issues yesterday (Friday 28 November). AfriForum’s Head of Public Relations, Ernst van Zyl, presented the findings of the organisation’s new The world must know report in an oral presentation at this UN Forum. AfriForum also handed over a copy of the report to the UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues, Professor Nicolas Levrat.

AfriForum’s report and international campaign focuses on issues affecting minorities such as the Afrikaners, including the singing of the “Kill the Boer” chant, farm murders, the Expropriation Act, incitement to violence against minorities and attacks on minorities’ heritage and language.

According to Van Zyl, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights’ introductory remarks that governments regularly use minorities as a scapegoat for their failures, are very relevant to the SA government’s current behavior.

“The ANC’s desperate intimidation, blackmail and censorship tactics have failed in their attempts to silence AfriForum. The truth is not afraid to be put in the spotlight,” Van Zyl concludes.

AfriForum’s report can be found at www.theworldmustknow.co.za.
