Today, during a presentation at the sixteenth session of the United Nations (UN) Forum on Minority Issues, AfriForum brought the ongoing incidents of discrimination and hate speech against minorities in South Africa to the attention of the forum. These issues include, among others: the chanting of the song \u201cKill the Boer\u201d by high-profile politicians; the South African government\u2019s planned exclusion of white farmers from tariff-free agricultural exports to the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom (UK) if they don\u2019t meet certain race criteria; and the application of race as a condition for water use licence applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Ernst van Zyl, AfriForum\u2019s Head of Public Relations, \u201cthese forums are valuable opportunities to network with other organisations that represent minority groups, as well as international role-players who are sympathetic to AfriForum\u2019s cause.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The findings highlighted in AfriForum\u2019s presentation and reports attracted a lot of interest among the representatives at the Minority Forum, explains Van Zyl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
AfriForum also presented a report to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) earlier this week. With today\u2019s presentation, AfriForum\u2019s international campaign at the UN has now been concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
