Saskatchewan is a province in the heart of Canada. Right in the middle. Its borders stretch from Santa\u2019s front porch to North Dakota in the USA. In winter we experience days that can get as cold as -45 \u00b0C. Our summers are lovely and temperatures can rise to 35 \u00b0C. The province is based on farming, and the golden yellow canola fields are something special to behold in high summer. Our province is called the \u201cLand of Living Skies\u201d because of the aurora borealis that we can see quite often, but colloquially we simply call Saskatchewan the \u201cCanadian Free State plains\u201d because it is so flat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a fun event, with colourful flags fluttering in the wind and the parking lot is crammed with cars. Words like \u201cSawubona\u201d, \u201cYebo\u201d and \u201cDumela\u201d warmly welcome you at the entrance. Under the huge \u201cSouth African Market Welcome<\/em>!\u201d banner Afrikaans people greet you, take the entrance fee and put a stamp on your hand. It\u2019s remarkable how friendly the people are, everyone laughs and chats and Afrikaans music can be heard in the distance. Children play and laugh, and hearing \u201cHallo, oom\u201d or \u201cDankie, tannie\u201d just makes your day!<\/p>\n\n\n
