{"id":196130,"date":"2021-01-15T10:22:03","date_gmt":"2021-01-15T08:22:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wereldwyd.co.za\/natures-corner-the-courageous-calf\/"},"modified":"2021-01-15T10:22:03","modified_gmt":"2021-01-15T08:22:03","slug":"natures-corner-the-courageous-calf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wereldwyd.co.za\/en\/natures-corner-the-courageous-calf\/","title":{"rendered":"Nature\u2019s Corner \u2013 The courageous hippo calf"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During a visit by Two-V Productions\u2019 Andr\u00e9 and Kate to the Kruger National Park, they came across this hippo calf chasing a waterbuck at the Mestel Dam near Numbi Gate.<\/p>\n<p>The next morning Kate and Andr\u00e9 returned to the dam &#8230; and there was the courageous calf &#8230; once again chasing animals &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Hippos are very territorial and the calf is probably already training to protect his territory.<\/p>\n<p>Hippos are remarkable animals that can stay underwater for up to six minutes. Usually one calf is born after a gestation period of 225 to 257 days. Initially, the mother hides the calf in reeds. When calf and mother join the rest of the herd after a few months, other hippos will act as babysitters while the mother grazes.<\/p>\n<p>All the sounds you hear in this and Andr\u00e9 and Kate&#8217;s other videos are the original sounds.
