ShowMax has just released the first trailer for their debut original series, Tali\u2019s Wedding Diary<\/em>, a mockumentary starring Julia Anastasopoulos (aka SuzelleDIY<\/em>).<\/p>\n

Premiering on 14 December 2017, Tali\u2019s Wedding Diary<\/em> follows a self-obsessed Sandton princess (Julia) who\u2019s moved to Cape Town and is filming the build-up to her wedding to her property-agent fianc\u00e9 Darren (Anton Taylor, star of the popular web series Jozi Shore <\/em>and the award-winning short Money, Keys, Phone<\/em>).<\/p>\n

\u201cTali and Suzelle are very different characters,\u201d says Julia. \u201cEveryone loves Suzelle, but audiences are going to love to hate Tali \u2013 she\u2019s definitely a bridezilla, who\u2019s determined to have the perfect wedding, with or without her husband-to-be.\u201d She says while Suzelle would love Tali, Tali would find Suzelle irritating.<\/p>\n

Tali\u2019s Wedding Diary<\/em> was inspired by Julia\u2019s own wedding to SuzelleDIY<\/em> director Ari Kruger. Their shared sense of humour was part of what brought them together and they had lots to laugh at in the build-up to their wedding. \u201cThere\u2019s so much comedic material in getting married,\u201d says Julia. \u201cYou meet the funniest people and there\u2019s so much stuff you can\u2019t actually believe, but somehow we\u2019d never seen a wedding parody in a South African context before.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since introducing SuzelleDIY to YouTube<\/a>, Julia and Ari have created more than 80 Suzelle videos with over 23 million views. They\u2019ve taught over 2.5 million people How To Make A Cinderblock Bench<\/em><\/a> and another million How To Make A Braai Pie<\/em><\/a>. Kruger has also directed two Vimeo Staff Pick short films, Jakkals13<\/em><\/a> and Focus<\/em><\/a>. <\/em><\/p>\n

For Tali\u2019s Wedding Diary<\/em>, they\u2019ve surrounded themselves with an all-star cast, including Lara Lipschitz, who just won Best Actress at NYC Web Fest for her series Chin-Up<\/em>; three-time Savannah Comics Choice nominee Glen Biderman-Pam; Fleur du Cap Best Actress winner and 2017 Safta-nominee Kate Normington (Those Who Can\u2019t<\/em>); and two-time Fleur du Cap winner Guy de Lancey (The Pervert Laura<\/em>). Look out for cameos from the likes of Top Billing<\/em> host Lorna Maseko; Nic Smal from Derick Watts and the Sunday Blues; Nicci Saint Bruce (Push Push<\/em>); members of Al Bairre; and, of course, Gina Collins (Marianne in SuzelleDIY<\/em>).<\/p>\n

Tali\u2019s Wedding Diary <\/em>is the debut ShowMax Original, building on the success of this year\u2019s acclaimed co-productions: iNumber Number<\/em> with Mzansi Magic and Waterfront<\/em> with kykNET.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no question that there\u2019s a strong demand for local content and that it can be a key differentiator,\u201d says Chris Savides, ShowMax Africa Head. \u201cWhen Julia and Ari approached us, we loved that they weren\u2019t pitching a Hollywood show cut and pasted into South Africa, but rather characters straight from Sandton and Sea Point. We plan to keep giving our customers the best international shows out there, but at the same time offer something nobody else has \u2013 truly local programming like Tali\u2019s Wedding Diary<\/em>, made just for them.\u201d<\/p>\n
