Most of the time The Hague served as the \u201cbase\u201d where I stayed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wereldwyd.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/12.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-14574\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wereldwyd.co.za\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/12-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Photo: Alana Bailey\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Hague, also known as &#8216;s-Gravenhage or Den Haag in Afrikaans, has just more than half a million fulltime residents. Old and new buildings combine to present a nice ensemble.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wereldwyd.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/21.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-14575\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wereldwyd.co.za\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/21-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The city is the seat of the Dutch Parliament. The Inner Courtyard (Binnenhof) is the area around which the city developed \u2013 the Ridderzaal (Knight Hall) inside it dates from the 13th century.<\/p>\n<p>From The Hague it is easy to travel to other Dutch cities such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Delft, Leiden and even Belgium. In contrast to Amsterdam, The Hague is not flooded with tourists. Even so, there is a surprise around every curve and corner&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wereldwyd.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/31.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-14576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wereldwyd.co.za\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/31-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You might meet Christmas Father and his reindeers in Denne Road. This street is hugely popular for its five highlights: Cosy wine and dine places, lifestyle shops, fashion boutiques and beauty shops. Whether you are looking to buy valuable antique porcelain or long-playing records, it is the street for you!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-200973 gallery-columns-3 gallery-size-thumbnail'><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon portrait'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/wereldwyd.co.za\/en\/hague-city-feels-cosy-town-alana-bailey-01-2\/'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/wereldwyd.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/hague-city-feels-cosy-town-alana-bailey-01-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon portrait'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/wereldwyd.co.za\/en\/hague-city-feels-cosy-town-alana-bailey-02-2\/'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/wereldwyd.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/hague-city-feels-cosy-town-alana-bailey-02-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With the value of the rand plummeting quite often, luckily there are numerous beautiful scenes that will distract your attention from the tempting shops, such as romantic bridges above the canals, swans and interesting artwork!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wereldwyd.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/61.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-14579\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wereldwyd.co.za\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/61-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Photo: Alana Bailey\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Somewhere else, one can hear the sounds of an old barrel organ above the clip-clop of the shoe of a horse pulling it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wereldwyd.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/71.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-14581\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wereldwyd.co.za\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/71-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Photo: Alana Bailey\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On the wet and rainy Saturday, more than a thousand people marched silently through the streets to demonstrate against abortion. They were accompanied by mounted police.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-2' class='gallery galleryid-200973 gallery-columns-3 gallery-size-thumbnail'><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon portrait'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/wereldwyd.co.za\/en\/hague-city-feels-cosy-town-alana-bailey-03-2\/'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/wereldwyd.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/hague-city-feels-cosy-town-alana-bailey-03-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon portrait'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/wereldwyd.co.za\/en\/hague-city-feels-cosy-town-alana-bailey-04-2\/'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/wereldwyd.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/hague-city-feels-cosy-town-alana-bailey-04-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Everywhere there were signs of Christmas&#8230; From the red carpet and huge Christmas tree in De Passage, the oldest shopping centre in the Netherlands dating from 1885 and a UNESCO monument, to the doors of private residences.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wereldwyd.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/101.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-14584\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wereldwyd.co.za\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/101-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Photo: Alana Bailey\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Even the cold of winter cannot hide the beauty of the city.
