{"id":203973,"date":"2025-01-24T12:09:12","date_gmt":"2025-01-24T10:09:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wereldwyd.co.za\/?p=203973"},"modified":"2025-01-24T12:09:14","modified_gmt":"2025-01-24T10:09:14","slug":"minister-must-refuse-to-sign-the-expropriation-act-demands-afriforum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wereldwyd.co.za\/en\/minister-must-refuse-to-sign-the-expropriation-act-demands-afriforum\/","title":{"rendered":"Minister must refuse to sign the Expropriation Act, demands AfriForum"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Following the signing of the Expropriation Act by President Cyril Ramaphosa, AfriForum is calling on the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Dean Macpherson, to refuse to be a co-signatory to this contentious law. If the Minister undersigns the Expropriation Act\u2019s proclamation, he will allow Ramaphosa and the ANC to co-opt other parties in the Government of National Unity (GNU) to carry out the ANC\u2019s destructive policies. This will make a complete mockery of the GNU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In terms of Article 101(2) of the Constitution, a written decision by the President must be co-signed by a Minister if that decision affects a function assigned to the Minister. Without it, the promulgation of a law cannot take place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ernst van Zyl, Head of Public Relations at AfriForum, says it\u2019s the DA Minister\u2019s duty to refuse to be a co-signatory of the Expropriation Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"quote-style-1\">\u201cIf the Minister proclaims the Expropriation Act\u2019s commencement as co-signatory, he will confirm that the ANC has fully absorbed and neutralised the opposition parties in the GNU. This is therefore going to be a critical test for the GNU,\u201d concludes Van Zyl.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>AfriForum has made it clear to the Government that the organisation will take legal action to protect private property rights if the Government targets properties for expropriation without compensation. AfriForum also encourages the public to put their support behind the organisation at&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.onteiening.co.za\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer
