The civil rights organisation AfriForum is going to write an official letter to the United States government and request that the punitive measures that President Donald Trump wants to introduce against South Africa should rather target senior ANC leaders directly and not South Africa\u2019s residents. AfriForum\u2019s request follows in response to an entry that Trump made on his social media last night, around 18:00 Eastern Standard Time (EST) in America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
AfriForum is also going to make an urgent request to the South African government to, in an attempt to avert this crisis, table an amendment to the Expropriation Act that will ensure the protection of property rights in South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Kallie Kriel, CEO of AfriForum, his organisation has already warned President Cyril Ramaphosa and the ANC that the signing of the Expropriation Act, as well as the enforcement of the country\u2019s existing racial laws, will have serious negative implications for investor confidence in South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trump made the following entry on his social media: \u201cSouth Africa is confiscating land, and treating certain classes of people VERY BADLY. It is a bad situation that the Radical Left Media doesn\u2019t want to so much as mention. A massive Human Rights VIOLATION, at a minimum, is happening for all to see. The United States won\u2019t stand for it, we will act. Also, I will be cutting off all future funding to South Africa until a full investigation of this situation has been completed!\u201d (Donald Trump Truth Social Post 06:19 PM EST 02\/02\/25)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kriel further emphasises that there are serious concerns about the impact that Trump\u2019s punitive measures will have on ordinary citizens who are already buckling under economic pressure. \u201cAfriForum\u2019s position is and has always been that the foolish government and president should be punished for their destructive policies rather than the country\u2019s citizens,\u201d Kriel added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Solidarity Movement, of which AfriForum is a part, will later respond more fully to Trump\u2019s statements about South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
