Worldwide’s unique World Guide is as proudly South African as a boerewors roll at a Springbok rugby match. Every week, Worldwide introduces a business from the World Guide in Spotlight. This week it is AfriKos.
AfriKos is surprisingly different! You and your friends, relatives or colleagues prepare South African dishes yourselves. The classes are offered in Afrikaans!
There are three different workshops to choose from:
- Kuierkos (party food)
- Onthoukos (nostalgic childhood food)
- High Tea
The kuierkos workshop lasts two to three hours and we prepare the following:
- Wonderful baby carrots
- Lepelsteeltjies
- Marmite rolls
- Stuffed mushrooms
- Egg balls
- Coconut cubes
- Bobotie meatballs
- Banana bites
- Biltong balls
- Lamingtons
Other than braai and potjiekos, the following traditional dishes can be prepared during the onthoukos workshop:
- Bobotie
- Curried banana salad
- Sweetcorn fritters
- Pumpkin fritters
- Pap
- Milk tart
- Malva pudding
This workshop lasts three to four hours, but it is definitely worth the hard work!
The menu for the High Tea workshop is much more informal. The group decide what they would like to prepare, for example scones, cinnamon sugar muffins, sandwiches with surprising flavours, milk tartlets, koeksisters, marmite cheese muffins, hertzoggies (jam tartlets), garlic cubes and many more!
