You are the answer to South Africa’s poverty

Poverty in South Africa has risen dramatically between 2006 and 2015, and an estimated 30,4 million South Africans live in poverty. The only way to reduce this figure is by launching job creation projects on a large scale, but for this, South Africa needs skills – skills that are currently living abroad.

South Africa is hungry for skilled workers. Over the last few months, several articles have made it clear that the exodus of experts over the years has left a gap in the South African workforce that cannot be filled by the workers who are still here.

Some articles point out that many posts are available that cannot be filled because of the lack of skilled workers with the right training and background. Many young people are also unemployed because they are not qualified for the available posts. On top of that, emigration of skilled workers, temporarily and permanently, and a ban on immigration of foreigners with the necessary qualifications and experience exacerbates the problem.

According to Dr Pali Lehohla, Statistician-General of Statistics SA, the lack of skilled workers is one of the factors contributing to poverty and unemployment. Job creation arises when businesses grow and entrepreneurs are strengthened.

It is of crucial importance for Solidarity Helping Hand that people get the right training and job opportunities. Helping Hand’s job creation and training initiatives now include a web page where businesses can search for talented, qualified staff in Afrikaans. It is also a place where jobseekers can upload their CVs, browse through posts and apply for those posts. All of this we offer free of charge.

Werknet is a simple, user-friendly, Afrikaans web page. We invite you to place your resume or your company’s available posts on www.werknet.co.za. Contact René du Preez at rene@helpendehand.co.za or +2712 644 4390 for more information.
