I grew up in South Africa on a farm in the Sudwala valley, surrounded by forests, rivers and wildlife, with my grandparents living right next door. My grandmother was a potter, so ceramics has always been a part of my life. She taught all her grandchildren the basics of hand building and slabwork, but my favourite thing to do was to watch her throw beautiful pots on the wheel.

I moved to Liverpool in 2018 and quickly joined a pottery school to ease the homesickness and to make some new friends. It didn’t take long for me to get serious about my ceramics and work towards being a full-time potter. I am now based in Cardiff and work from my studio in the city centre.

I like to make pieces that are timeless and simple, so that I know in 50 years’ time they will still be as loved as the day they were bought. And that is the wonderful thing about pottery – if you look after it, you will have it forever!
