The World Guide is not only a hotchpotch of South African businesses abroad – there are also communities of South Africans who support and visit each other, and especially watch rugby together. So, this week we don’t have a business in the Spotlight but a club: the Cheetahs Rugby Ireland Fan Club.

The Cheetahs Rugby Ireland Fan Club came into existence in 2017 when a group of South African expat friends in Ireland started to gather to support the Cheetahs when participating in the Pro14. No matter where in Ireland the Cheetahs play, it’s never too far or too much trouble for the group to watch and support them. They are also very proud of being the noisiest crowd on the pavilion even though they are the smallest group; after all, the Cheetahs need to know they are supported, right?

The group has since grown, believing the more the merrier. So, if you are in Ireland when the Cheetahs play again, feel free to contact this group and attend a game with them. You may walk in there as a stranger but by the time the last whistle blows, you’ll be part of this orange group of supporters.

If you belong to a similar group or club abroad or know of one, or if you know of other groups or churches abroad where South Africans gather, let us know. We want to know what is happening in your area and we would like to inform other South African expats about it. Feel free to send an email to wereldwyd@afriforum.co.za We would love to hear from you!
