More about Lekker Eats:
Hi! I am Jordan Lazarus, owner and operator of Lekker Eats in Myrtle Beach, and want to share my story with you.
I have spent the last six years traveling and working (mostly eating!) in some of the most beautiful and remote places around the world as a stewardess and deckhand on private yachts. I found my love for food between working with chefs and eating authentic cuisine everywhere I went, but it was not until I was diagnosed with type I diabetes in 2016 that food became more than a love … It became my passion.
Shortly after my diagnosis I decided that, if I was going to continue working in the yachting industry, I was no longer going to be a stew or deckie. I would take the leap and become a sous chef. To do so, I would have to attend culinary school, and why not go somewhere unlike anywhere else in the world? In 2018 I chose to attend the South African Chefs Academy in Cape Town, South Africa.
South Africa is where my passion for food truly transitioned into an everyday lifestyle. I attended culinary school, worked for a bakery at a local market selling bread, worked as a student chef at a luxury hotel, and trained under one of Italy’s top chefs at his home Chef’s Table. I was surrounded by culture, adventure and lots of food! Inspired and with diploma and certificate in hand, I packed my tall chef’s hat in my suitcase and hopped on a plane to my next yachting job.
Joining a new yacht as the sous/crew chef, I spent the next year on the boat cooking my way through Singapore, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Fiji and New Zealand, while provisioning fresh produce from all of the island markets. I got a better understanding of the real meaning of “farm to table”. I love to eat healthy, whole foods. I love to feel good after a meal and I love seeing the bright colours of the rainbow on my plate. I find such a joy in creating new recipes and testing new flavours together and then sharing the creation with others.
Lekker Eats was born from my dream of bringing my passion, lifestyle and experience with food from my time as a chef in South Africa and in yachting to where I am rooted: Myrtle Beach. My family is here, my dearest friends and, of course, the beach! Lekker Eats is more than food … It is about the love and the adventure behind the ingredients, and I hope to share these yummy foods with you!
