The film-producing company Forum Films announced today that the documentary film Disrupted Land will be released on 7 March 2019 in Pretoria. This film, produced in cooperation with AfriForum, depicts the distortion of South Africa’s history regarding land ownership as well as the failure of land reform in South Africa. This announcement was made during the publication of the trailer on Forum Film’s YouTube channel.

The film was created by Ernst Roets, Deputy CEO of AfriForum and CEO of Forum Films. It will be used as part of AfriForum’s campaign to expose the distortion of the history of land ownership, as well as to recruit local and international support against expropriation without compensation.

“We have to be able to talk about our history factually and honestly. Where mistakes have been committed, we must acknowledge it; where certain things can be corrected, we must do that. At the same time, we must take a hard stance against politicians and activists who distort the past to drive their own political agendas. Disrupted Land shows that the history of landownership in South Africa is much more complex than what the ruling elite paints it to be; also, that current attempts to drive land reform have failed miserably, and that the situation will worsen significantly if government continues with its plans to expropriate private property without compensation,” Roets says.

  • Disrupted Land was produced by Ernst Roets, Louis Gagiano and Alexa Reynecke. The director was Elrich Yssel.
  • Disrupted Land will premiere on 7 March 2019 at the Menlyn Shopping Centre in Pretoria.
